Community outreach projects are in effect. Here's a quick view of our progress so far:
Swimmable Fishable by 2020!
In less than five years we envision a truly recreational Baltimore Harbor with green edges and running paths; trash-free open waters for boating, fishing, and swimming; shoreline marsh that shelters crabs and herons; and a Harbor teeming with fish. The Harbor should be an overall centerpiece of city pride, and a resource for citizens and tourists alike.
Securing clean waters for the Harbor also means cleaner, greener neighborhoods throughout the city, where children can splash and play in local streams without trash hazards or noxious odors. The value to Baltimore and its citizens is incalculable.
The Inner Harbor Water Wheel
In May 2014 the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore's Healthy Harbor Initiative installed the world's first solar and hydro powered Water Wheel trash interceptor. Since then the Water Wheel has assumed the persona of "Mr. Trash Wheel" and become famous around the world.
